For the music director; according to the sheminith style; a psalm of David. Deliver, LORD! For the godly have disappeared; people of integrity have vanished. 1For the choirmaster. According to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. Help, O LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men.
People lie to one another; they flatter and deceive. 2They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and a double heart.
May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts! 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue.
They say, "We speak persuasively; we know how to flatter and boast. Who is our master?" 4They say, “With our tongues we will prevail. We own our lips—who can be our master?”
"Because of the violence done to the oppressed, because of the painful cries of the needy, I will spring into action," says the LORD. "I will provide the safety they so desperately desire." 5“For the cause of the oppressed and for the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.”
The LORD's words are absolutely reliable. They are as untainted as silver purified in a furnace on the ground, where it is thoroughly refined. 6The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold.
You, LORD, will protect them; you will continually shelter each one from these evil people, 7You, O LORD, will keep us; You will forever guard us from this generation.
for the wicked seem to be everywhere, when people promote evil. 8The wicked wander freely, and vileness is exalted among men.
