Corinthians 6

NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
When any of you has a legal dispute with another, does he dare go to court before the unrighteous rather than before the saints?1When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints?
Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you not competent to settle trivial suits?2Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?
Do you not know that we will judge angels? Why not ordinary matters!3Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!
So if you have ordinary lawsuits, do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church?4So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church?
I say this to your shame! Is there no one among you wise enough to settle disputes between fellow Christians?5I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers,
Instead, does a Christian sue a Christian, and do this before unbelievers?6but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers?
The fact that you have lawsuits among yourselves demonstrates that you have already been defeated. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?7To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?
But you yourselves wrong and cheat, and you do this to your brothers and sisters! 8But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals,9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Some of you once lived this way. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 11And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
"All things are lawful for me"--but not everything is beneficial. "All things are lawful for me"--but I will not be controlled by anything.12“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.
"Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both." The body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.13“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
Now God indeed raised the Lord and he will raise us by his power.14And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!
Or do you not know that anyone who is united with a prostitute is one body with her? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."16Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.”
But the one united with the Lord is one spirit with him.17But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
Flee sexual immorality! "Every sin a person commits is outside of the body"--but the immoral person sins against his own body.18Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?19Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
For you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body. 20for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
