Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.1When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like a violent wind blowing came from heaven and filled the entire house where they were sitting.2Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying.
And tongues spreading out like a fire appeared to them and came to rest on each one of them.3And tongues, like flames of fire that were divided, appeared to them and rested on each one of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them. 4Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them ability for speech.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven residing in Jerusalem.5There were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.
When this sound occurred, a crowd gathered and was in confusion, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.6When this sound occurred, a crowd came together and was confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
Completely baffled, they said, "Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans?7And they were astounded and amazed, saying, "Look, aren't all these who are speaking Galileans?
And how is it that each one of us hears them in our own native language?8How is it that each of us can hear in our own native language?
Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and the province of Asia,9Parthians, Medes, Elamites; those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene, and visitors from Rome,10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs--we hear them speaking in our own languages about the great deeds God has done!"11Cretans and Arabs--we hear them speaking the magnificent acts of God in our own languages."
All were astounded and greatly confused, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"12They were all astounded and perplexed, saying to one another, "What could this be?"
But others jeered at the speakers, saying, "They are drunk on new wine!" 13But some sneered and said, "They're full of new wine!"
But Peter stood up with the eleven, raised his voice, and addressed them: "You men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, know this and listen carefully to what I say.14But Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them: "Men of Judah and all you residents of Jerusalem, let me explain this to you and pay attention to my words.
In spite of what you think, these men are not drunk, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning.15For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it's only nine in the morning.
But this is what was spoken about through the prophet Joel: 16On the contrary, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
And in the last days it will be,' God says, 'that I will pour out my Spirit on all people, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. 17And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 18I will even pour out My Spirit on My male and female slaves in those days, and they will prophesy.
And I will perform wonders in the sky above and miraculous signs on the earth below, blood and fire and clouds of smoke. 19I will display wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below: blood and fire and a cloud of smoke.
The sun will be changed to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes. 20The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and remarkable Day of the Lord comes.
And then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' 21Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
"Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man clearly attested to you by God with powerful deeds, wonders, and miraculous signs that God performed among you through him, just as you yourselves know--22Men of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.
this man, who was handed over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you executed by nailing him to a cross at the hands of Gentiles.23Though He was delivered up according to God's determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail Him to a cross and kill Him.
But God raised him up, having released him from the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held in its power.24God raised Him up, ending the pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
For David says about him, 'I saw the Lord always in front of me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken. 25For David says of Him: I saw the Lord ever before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced; my body also will live in hope, 26Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover, my flesh will rest in hope,
because you will not leave my soul in Hades, nor permit your Holy One to experience decay. 27because You will not leave me in Hades or allow Your Holy One to see decay.
You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of joy with your presence.' 28You have revealed the paths of life to me; You will fill me with gladness in Your presence."
"Brothers, I can speak confidently to you about our forefather David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.29Brothers, I can confidently speak to you about the patriarch David: He is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
So then, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne,30Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn an oath to him to seat one of his descendants on his throne.
David by foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did his body experience decay.31Seeing this in advance, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Messiah: He was not left in Hades, and His flesh did not experience decay."
This Jesus God raised up, and we are all witnesses of it.32God has resurrected this Jesus. We are all witnesses of this.
So then, exalted to the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out what you both see and hear.33Therefore, since He has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, He has poured out what you both see and hear.
For David did not ascend into heaven, but he himself says, 'The Lord said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand 34For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says: The Lord declared to my Lord, Sit at My right hand
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."' 35until I make Your enemies Your footstool.'"
Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ." 36Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!"
Now when they heard this, they were acutely distressed and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "What should we do, brothers?"37When they heard this, they came under deep conviction and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: "Brothers, what must we do?""
Peter said to them, "Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.38Repent," Peter said to them, "and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself."39For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
With many other words he testified and exhorted them saying, "Save yourselves from this perverse generation!"40And with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, "Be saved from this corrupt generation!"
So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added. 41So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them.
They were devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.42And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.
Reverential awe came over everyone, and many wonders and miraculous signs came about by the apostles.43Then fear came over everyone, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles.
All who believed were together and held everything in common,44Now all the believers were together and held all things in common.
and they began selling their property and possessions and distributing the proceeds to everyone, as anyone had need.45They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone had a need.
Every day they continued to gather together by common consent in the temple courts, breaking bread from house to house, sharing their food with glad and humble hearts,46Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude,
praising God and having the good will of all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being saved. 47praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved.
