At this also my heart pounds and leaps from its place. 1My heart pounds at this and leaps from my chest.
Listen carefully to the thunder of his voice, to the rumbling that proceeds from his mouth. 2Just listen to His thunderous voice and the rumbling that comes from His mouth.
Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners of the earth. 3He lets it loose beneath the entire sky; His lightning to the ends of the earth.
After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts when his voice is heard. 4Then there comes a roaring sound; God thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His rumbling voice is heard.
God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. 5God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things that we cannot comprehend.
For to the snow he says, 'Fall to earth,' and to the torrential rains, 'Pour down.' 6For He says to the snow, "Fall to the earth," and the torrential rains, His mighty torrential rains,
He causes everyone to stop working, so that all people may know his work. 7serve as His sign to all mankind, so that all men may know His work.
The wild animals go to their lairs, and in their dens they remain. 8The wild animals enter their lairs and stay in their dens.
A tempest blows out from its chamber, icy cold from the driving winds. 9The windstorm comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds.
The breath of God produces ice, and the breadth of the waters freeze solid. 10Ice is formed by the breath of God, and watery expanses are frozen.
He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through the clouds. 11He saturates clouds with moisture; He scatters His lightning through them.
The clouds go round in circles, wheeling about according to his plans, to carry out all that he commands them over the face of the whole inhabited world. 12They swirl about, turning round and round at His direction, accomplishing everything He commands them over the surface of the inhabited world.
Whether it is for punishment for his land, or whether it is for mercy, he causes it to find its mark. 13He causes this to happen for punishment, for His land, or for His faithful love.
"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still and consider the wonders God works. 14Listen to this, Job. Stop and consider God's wonders.
Do you know how God commands them, how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud? 15Do you know how God directs His clouds or makes their lightning flash?
Do you know about the balancing of the clouds, that wondrous activity of him who is perfect in knowledge? 16Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonderful works of Him who has perfect knowledge?
You, whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind, 17You whose clothes get hot when the south wind brings calm to the land,
will you, with him, spread out the clouds, solid as a mirror of molten metal? 18can you help God spread out the skies as hard as a cast metal mirror?
Tell us what we should say to him. We cannot prepare a case because of the darkness. 19Teach us what we should say to Him; we cannot prepare our case because of our darkness.
Should he be informed that I want to speak? If a man speaks, surely he would be swallowed up! 20Should He be told that I want to speak? Can a man speak when he is confused?
But now, the sun cannot be looked at--it is bright in the skies--after a wind passed and swept the clouds away. 21Now men cannot even look at the sun when it is in the skies, after a wind has swept through and cleared them away.
From the north he comes in golden splendor; around God is awesome majesty. 22Yet out of the north He comes, shrouded in a golden glow; awesome majesty surrounds Him.
As for the Almighty, we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice and abundant righteousness he does not oppress. 23The Almighty--we cannot reach Him-- He is exalted in power! He will not oppress justice and abundant righteousness,
Therefore people fear him, for he does not regard all the wise in heart." 24Therefore, men fear Him. He does not look favorably on any who are wise in heart.
