Isaiah 54
NET Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleInternational Standard Version
"Shout for joy, O barren one who has not given birth! Give a joyful shout and cry out, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate one are more numerous than the children of the married woman," says the LORD. 1"Sing, you barren woman, even the one who never bore a child! Burst into song and shout for joy, even you who were never in labor! For the children of the desolate woman will be more than the children of her that is married," says the LORD.
Make your tent larger, stretch your tent curtains farther out! Spare no effort, lengthen your ropes, and pound your stakes deep. 2"Enlarge the location of your tent, let the curtains of your dwellings be stretched wide, and don't hold back. Lengthen your cords; strengthen your stakes.
For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your children will conquer nations and will resettle desolate cities. 3For you will spread out to the right hand and to the left, and your descendants will possess the nations and will populate the deserted towns.
Don't be afraid, for you will not be put to shame! Don't be intimidated, for you will not be humiliated! You will forget about the shame you experienced in your youth; you will no longer remember the disgrace of your abandonment. 4 "Don't be afraid, because you won't be ashamed; don't fear shame, for you won't be humiliated— because you will forget the disgrace of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
For your husband is the one who made you--the LORD who commands armies is his name. He is your protector, the Holy One of Israel. He is called "God of the entire earth." 5For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of the Heavenly Armies is his name, and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of the whole earth.
"Indeed, the LORD will call you back like a wife who has been abandoned and suffers from depression, like a young wife when she has been rejected," says your God. 6For the LORD has called you back like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit, like the wife of a man's youth when she is cast off," says the LORD your God.
"For a short time I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you. 7"For a brief moment I abandoned you; but I'll gather you with great compassion.
In a burst of anger I rejected you momentarily, but with lasting devotion I will have compassion on you," says your protector, the LORD. 8I hid my face from you for a moment in a surge of anger, but I will have compassion on you with my everlasting gracious love," says the LORD your Redeemer.
"As far as I am concerned, this is like in Noah's time, when I vowed that the waters of Noah's flood would never again cover the earth. In the same way I have vowed that I will not be angry at you or shout at you. 9"For this is like the waters of Noah to me, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again spread over the earth; so have I sworn that I won't be angry with you again and that I won't rebuke you.
Even if the mountains are removed and the hills displaced, my devotion will not be removed from you, nor will my covenant of friendship be displaced," says the LORD, the one who has compassion on you. 10For the mountains may collapse and the hills may reel, but my gracious love will not depart from you, neither will my covenant of peace totter," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
"O afflicted one, driven away, and unconsoled! Look, I am about to set your stones in antimony and I lay your foundation with lapis-lazuli. 11"O afflicted one, passed back and forth, and not comforted, Look! I am about to set your stones in antimony, and lay your foundations with sapphires.
I will make your pinnacles out of gems, your gates out of beryl, and your outer wall out of beautiful stones. 12And I'll make your battlements of rubies, and your gates of jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.
All your children will be followers of the LORD, and your children will enjoy great prosperity. 13Then all your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be your children's prosperity.
You will be reestablished when I vindicate you. You will not experience oppression; indeed, you will not be afraid. You will not be terrified, for nothing frightening will come near you. 14"In righteousness you'll be established; you will be far from tyranny, for you won't be afraid, and from terror, for it won't come near you.
If anyone dares to challenge you, it will not be my doing! Whoever tries to challenge you will be defeated. 15Watch! If anyone does attack you, it will not be from me; whoever may attack you will fall because of you.
Look, I create the craftsman, who fans the coals into a fire and forges a weapon. I create the destroyer so he might devastate. 16Look! It is I who have created the blacksmith who fans coals in the fire, and produces a weapon for his purpose. It is I who have created the ravager to wreak havoc;
No weapon forged to be used against you will succeed; you will refute everyone who tries to accuse you. This is what the LORD will do for his servants--I will vindicate them," says the LORD. 17no weapon that is forged against you will be effective. This is the heritage of the LORD's servants, and their righteousness from me," says the LORD.
