And Job took up his discourse again: 1Then Job continued his discourse and said,
"As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter--2"As God lives, who has taken away my right, And the Almighty, who has embittered my soul,
for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils, 3For as long as life is in me, And the breath of God is in my nostrils,
my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will whisper no deceit. 4My lips certainly will not speak unjustly, Nor will my tongue mutter deceit.
I will never declare that you three are in the right; until I die, I will not set aside my integrity! 5"Far be it from me that I should declare you right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
I will maintain my righteousness and never let it go; my conscience will not reproach me for as long as I live. 6"I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go. My heart does not reproach any of my days.
"May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unrighteous. 7"May my enemy be as the wicked And my opponent as the unjust.
For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? 8"For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, When God requires his life?
Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him? 9"Will God hear his cry When distress comes upon him?
Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call out to God at all times? 10"Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?
I will teach you about the power of God; What is on the Almighty's mind I will not conceal. 11"I will instruct you in the power of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk? 12"Behold, all of you have seen it; Why then do you act foolishly?
This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty. 13"This is the portion of a wicked man from God, And the inheritance which tyrants receive from the Almighty.
If his children increase--it is for the sword! His offspring never have enough to eat. 14"Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; And his descendants will not be satisfied with bread.
Those who survive him are buried by the plague, and their widows do not mourn for them. 15"His survivors will be buried because of the plague, And their widows will not be able to weep.
If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay, 16"Though he piles up silver like dust And prepares garments as plentiful as the clay,
what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver. 17He may prepare it, but the just will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver.
The house he builds is as fragile as a moth's cocoon, like a hut that a watchman has made. 18"He has built his house like the spider's web, Or as a hut which the watchman has made.
He goes to bed wealthy, but will do so no more. When he opens his eyes, it is all gone. 19"He lies down rich, but never again; He opens his eyes, and it is no longer.
Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off. 20"Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place. 21"The east wind carries him away, and he is gone, For it whirls him away from his place.
It hurls itself against him without pity as he flees headlong from its power. 22"For it will hurl at him without sparing; He will surely try to flee from its power.
It claps its hands at him in derision and hisses him away from his place. 23"Men will clap their hands at him And will hiss him from his place.
