The word of the LORD came to me:1The word of the LORD came to me:
"Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, 'This is what the sovereign LORD says: "'Your heart is proud and you said, "I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas"--yet you are a man and not a god, though you think you are godlike. 2"Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'In the pride of your heart you say, "I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas." But you are a mere mortal and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god.
Look, you are wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you. 3Are you wiser than Daniel? Is no secret hidden from you?
By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself; you have amassed gold and silver in your treasuries. 4By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself and amassed gold and silver in your treasuries.
By your great skill in trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart is proud because of your wealth. 5By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud.
"'Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Because you think you are godlike, 6"'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god,
I am about to bring foreigners against you, the most terrifying of nations. They will draw their swords against the grandeur made by your wisdom, and they will defile your splendor. 7I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your shining splendor.
They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die violently in the heart of the seas. 8They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas.
Will you still say, "I am a god," before the one who kills you--though you are a man and not a god--when you are in the power of those who wound you? 9Will you then say, "I am a god," in the presence of those who kill you? You will be but a mortal, not a god, in the hands of those who slay you.
You will die the death of the uncircumcised by the hand of foreigners; for I have spoken, declares the sovereign LORD.'" 10You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners. I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD.'"
The word of the LORD came to me:11The word of the LORD came to me:
"Son of man, sing a lament for the king of Tyre, and say to him, 'This is what the sovereign LORD says: "'You were the sealer of perfection, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 12"Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering, the ruby, topaz, and emerald, the chrysolite, onyx, and jasper, the sapphire, turquoise, and beryl; your settings and mounts were made of gold. On the day you were created they were prepared. 13You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.
I placed you there with an anointed guardian cherub; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked about amidst fiery stones. 14You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones.
You were blameless in your behavior from the day you were created, until sin was discovered in you. 15You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.
In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned; so I defiled you and banished you from the mountain of God--the guardian cherub expelled you from the midst of the stones of fire. 16Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom on account of your splendor. I threw you down to the ground; I placed you before kings, that they might see you. 17Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
By the multitude of your iniquities, through the sinfulness of your trade, you desecrated your sanctuaries. So I drew fire out from within you; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth before the eyes of all who saw you. 18By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching.
All who know you among the peoples are shocked at you; you have become terrified and will be no more.'" 19All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.'"
The word of the LORD came to me:20The word of the LORD came to me:
"Son of man, turn toward Sidon and prophesy against it.21"Son of man, set your face against Sidon; prophesy against her
Say, 'This is what the sovereign LORD says: "'Look, I am against you, Sidon, and I will magnify myself in your midst. Then they will know that I am the LORD when I execute judgments on her and reveal my sovereign power in her. 22and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'I am against you, Sidon, and among you I will display my glory. You will know that I am the LORD, when I inflict punishment on you and within you am proved to be holy.
I will send a plague into the city and bloodshed into its streets; the slain will fall within it, by the sword that attacks it from every side. Then they will know that I am the LORD. 23I will send a plague upon you and make blood flow in your streets. The slain will fall within you, with the sword against you on every side. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
"'No longer will Israel suffer from the sharp briers or painful thorns of all who surround and scorn them. Then they will know that I am the sovereign LORD. 24"'No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.
"'This is what the sovereign LORD says: When I regather the house of Israel from the peoples where they are dispersed, I will reveal my sovereign power over them in the sight of the nations, and they will live in their land that I gave to my servant Jacob.25"'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: When I gather the people of Israel from the nations where they have been scattered, I will be proved holy through them in the sight of the nations. Then they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob.
They will live securely in it; they will build houses and plant vineyards. They will live securely when I execute my judgments on all those who scorn them and surround them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.'" 26They will live there in safety and will build houses and plant vineyards; they will live in safety when I inflict punishment on all their neighbors who maligned them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.'"
