New International VersionBerean Study Bible
A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side-- let Israel say--1A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side—let Israel now declare—
if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us,2if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us,
they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us;3when their anger flared against us, then they would have swallowed us alive,
the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,4then the floods would have engulfed us, then the torrent would have overwhelmed us,
the raging waters would have swept us away.5then the raging waters would have swept us away.
Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.6Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth.
We have escaped like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.7We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler; the net is torn, and we have slipped away.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.8Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
