Jonah 2
NIV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionInternational Standard Version
1From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the sea creature.
2He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.2He said: "I called out to the LORD from the midst of affliction directed at me, and he answered me. From the depths of death I cried out for help; and you heard my cry.
3You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.3You cast me into the deep— into the heart of the sea. Flood waters engulfed me. All your breakers and your waves swirled over me.
4I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'4So I told myself, 'I have been driven away from you. How will I again gaze on your holy Temple?'
5The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.5Flood waters encompassed me, the deep surrounded me while seaweed wrapped around my head.
6To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit.6I sank to the roots of the mountains; the earth's prison bars closed around me forever. Yet you resurrect the dead from the Pit, LORD my God!
7"When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.7"As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to you in your holy Temple.
8"Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them.8Those who cling to vain idols leave behind the gracious love that could have been theirs.
9But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, 'Salvation comes from the LORD.'"9But as for me, with a voice of thanksgiving I will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance is the LORD's!"
10And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.10Then the LORD spoke to the sea creature, and it spewed Jonah onto the dry land.
