New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.1Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fish,
He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.2and he said, "I called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice.
You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.3"For You had cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the current engulfed me. All Your breakers and billows passed over me.
I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'4"So I said, 'I have been expelled from Your sight. Nevertheless I will look again toward Your holy temple.'
The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.5"Water encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head.
To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit.6"I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.
"When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.7"While I was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, And my prayer came to You, Into Your holy temple.
"Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them.8"Those who regard vain idols Forsake their faithfulness,
But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, 'Salvation comes from the LORD.'"9But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the LORD."
And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.10Then the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
