Psalm 83
NIV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionInternational Standard Version
A song. A psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.1God, do not rest! Don't be silent! Don't stay inactive, God!
See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads.2See! Your enemies rage; those who hate you issue threats.
With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.3They plot against your people and conspire against your cherished ones.
"Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel's name is remembered no more."4They say, "Let us go and erase them as a nation so the name of Israel will not be remembered anymore."
With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you--5Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you—
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,6the tents of Edom, the Ishmaelites, Moab, the Hagrites,
Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.7Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, and the inhabitants of Tyre.
Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot's descendants.8Even Assyria joined them to strengthen the descendants of Lot. Interlude
Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,9Deal with them as you did to Midian, Sisera, and Jabin at the Kishon Brook.
who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground.10They were destroyed at En-dor and became as dung on the ground.
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,11Punish their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God."12who said, "Let us possess the pastures of God."
Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind.13God, set them up like dried thistles, like straw before the wind.
As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,14Like a fire burning a forest, and a flame setting mountains ablaze.
so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.15Pursue them with your storm and terrify them with your whirlwind.
Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name.16Fill their faces with shame until they seek your name, God.
May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.17Let them be humiliated and terrified permanently until they die in shame.
Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD-- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.18Then they will know that you alone— whose name is LORD— are the Most High over all the earth.
