Timothy 2
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--1First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.2for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
This is good, and pleases God our Savior,3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,5For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.6who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.7For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,
but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.11A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.12But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.13For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.
And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.15But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
