Ezekiel 4
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
"Now, son of man, take a block of clay, put it in front of you and draw the city of Jerusalem on it.1"Now you son of man, get yourself a brick, place it before you and inscribe a city on it, Jerusalem.
Then lay siege to it: Erect siege works against it, build a ramp up to it, set up camps against it and put battering rams around it.2"Then lay siege against it, build a siege wall, raise up a ramp, pitch camps and place battering rams against it all around.
Then take an iron pan, place it as an iron wall between you and the city and turn your face toward it. It will be under siege, and you shall besiege it. This will be a sign to the people of Israel.3"Then get yourself an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between you and the city, and set your face toward it so that it is under siege, and besiege it. This is a sign to the house of Israel.
"Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the people of Israel upon yourself. You are to bear their sin for the number of days you lie on your side.4"As for you, lie down on your left side and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel on it; you shall bear their iniquity for the number of days that you lie on it.
I have assigned you the same number of days as the years of their sin. So for 390 days you will bear the sin of the people of Israel.5"For I have assigned you a number of days corresponding to the years of their iniquity, three hundred and ninety days; thus you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
"After you have finished this, lie down again, this time on your right side, and bear the sin of the people of Judah. I have assigned you 40 days, a day for each year.6"When you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah; I have assigned it to you for forty days, a day for each year.
Turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem and with bared arm prophesy against her.7"Then you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared and prophesy against it.
I will tie you up with ropes so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have finished the days of your siege.8"Now behold, I will put ropes on you so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have completed the days of your siege.
"Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself. You are to eat it during the 390 days you lie on your side.9"But as for you, take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet and spelt, put them in one vessel and make them into bread for yourself; you shall eat it according to the number of the days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days.
Weigh out twenty shekels of food to eat each day and eat it at set times.10"Your food which you eat shall be twenty shekels a day by weight; you shall eat it from time to time.
Also measure out a sixth of a hin of water and drink it at set times.11"The water you drink shall be the sixth part of a hin by measure; you shall drink it from time to time.
Eat the food as you would a loaf of barley bread; bake it in the sight of the people, using human excrement for fuel."12"You shall eat it as a barley cake, having baked it in their sight over human dung."
The LORD said, "In this way the people of Israel will eat defiled food among the nations where I will drive them."13Then the LORD said, "Thus will the sons of Israel eat their bread unclean among the nations where I will banish them."
Then I said, "Not so, Sovereign LORD! I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now I have never eaten anything found dead or torn by wild animals. No impure meat has ever entered my mouth."14But I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I have never been defiled; for from my youth until now I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has any unclean meat ever entered my mouth."
"Very well," he said, "I will let you bake your bread over cow dung instead of human excrement."15Then He said to me, "See, I will give you cow's dung in place of human dung over which you will prepare your bread."
He then said to me: "Son of man, I am about to cut off the food supply in Jerusalem. The people will eat rationed food in anxiety and drink rationed water in despair,16Moreover, He said to me, "Son of man, behold, I am going to break the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and drink water by measure and in horror,
for food and water will be scarce. They will be appalled at the sight of each other and will waste away because of their sin.17because bread and water will be scarce; and they will be appalled with one another and waste away in their iniquity.
