New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.1And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands.2"The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given.
Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.3"Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.
"But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.4"Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.5"Surely I will require your lifeblood; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man's brother I will require the life of man.
"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.6"Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.
As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it."7"As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it."
Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him:8Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,
"I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you9"Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you;
and with every living creature that was with you--the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you--every living creature on earth.10and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth.
I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."11"I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth."
And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:12God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations;
I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.13I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth.
Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,14"It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud,
I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.15and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh.
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."16"When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth."
So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth."17And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth."
The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)18Now the sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem and Ham and Japheth; and Ham was the father of Canaan.
These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth.19These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated.
Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard.20Then Noah began farming and planted a vineyard.
When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.21He drank of the wine and became drunk, and uncovered himself inside his tent.
Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.22Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.
But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father's naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked.23But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it upon both their shoulders and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were turned away, so that they did not see their father's nakedness.
When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him,24When Noah awoke from his wine, he knew what his youngest son had done to him.
he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers."25So he said, "Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brothers."
He also said, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.26He also said, "Blessed be the LORD, The God of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant.
May God extend Japheth's territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth."27"May God enlarge Japheth, And let him dwell in the tents of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant."
After the flood Noah lived 350 years.28Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood.
Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died.29So all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died.
