And Job continued his discourse:1And Job took up his discourse again:
"As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter,2"As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter--
as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils,3for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,
my lips will not say anything wicked, and my tongue will not utter lies.4my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will whisper no deceit.
I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity.5I will never declare that you three are in the right; until I die, I will not set aside my integrity!
I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.6I will maintain my righteousness and never let it go; my conscience will not reproach me for as long as I live.
"May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unjust!7"May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unrighteous.
For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?8For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them?9Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?
Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times?10Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call out to God at all times?
"I will teach you about the power of God; the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal.11I will teach you about the power of God; What is on the Almighty's mind I will not conceal.
You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk?12If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk?
"Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty:13This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty.
However many his children, their fate is the sword; his offspring will never have enough to eat.14If his children increase--it is for the sword! His offspring never have enough to eat.
The plague will bury those who survive him, and their widows will not weep for them.15Those who survive him are buried by the plague, and their widows do not mourn for them.
Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay,16If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay,
what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver.17what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver.
The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman.18The house he builds is as fragile as a moth's cocoon, like a hut that a watchman has made.
He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone.19He goes to bed wealthy, but will do so no more. When he opens his eyes, it is all gone.
Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night.20Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off.
The east wind carries him off, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.21The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power.22It hurls itself against him without pity as he flees headlong from its power.
It claps its hands in derision and hisses him out of his place."23It claps its hands at him in derision and hisses him away from his place.
