New International VersionNET Bible
Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds! At morning's light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it.1Those who devise sinful plans are as good as dead, those who dream about doing evil as they lie in bed. As soon as morning dawns they carry out their plans, because they have the power to do so.
They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take them. They defraud people of their homes, they rob them of their inheritance.2They confiscate the fields they desire, and seize the houses they want. They defraud people of their homes, and deprive people of the land they have inherited.
Therefore, the LORD says: "I am planning disaster against this people, from which you cannot save yourselves. You will no longer walk proudly, for it will be a time of calamity.3Therefore the LORD says this: "Look, I am devising disaster for this nation! It will be like a yoke from which you cannot free your neck. You will no longer walk proudly, for it will be a time of catastrophe.
In that day people will ridicule you; they will taunt you with this mournful song: 'We are utterly ruined; my people's possession is divided up. He takes it from me! He assigns our fields to traitors.'"4In that day people will sing this taunt song to you--they will mock you with this lament: 'We are completely destroyed; they sell off the property of my people. How they remove it from me! They assign our fields to the conqueror.'
Therefore you will have no one in the assembly of the LORD to divide the land by lot.5Therefore no one will assign you land in the LORD's community.
"Do not prophesy," their prophets say. "Do not prophesy about these things; disgrace will not overtake us."6Don't preach with such impassioned rhetoric,' they say excitedly. 'These prophets should not preach of such things; we will not be overtaken by humiliation.'
You descendants of Jacob, should it be said, "Does the LORD become impatient? Does he do such things?" "Do not my words do good to the one whose ways are upright?7Does the family of Jacob say, 'The LORD's patience can't be exhausted--he would never do such things'? To be sure, my commands bring a reward for those who obey them,
Lately my people have risen up like an enemy. You strip off the rich robe from those who pass by without a care, like men returning from battle.8but you rise up as an enemy against my people. You steal a robe from a friend, from those who pass by peacefully as if returning from a war.
You drive the women of my people from their pleasant homes. You take away my blessing from their children forever.9You wrongly evict widows among my people from their cherished homes. You defraud their children of their prized inheritance.
Get up, go away! For this is not your resting place, because it is defiled, it is ruined, beyond all remedy.10But you are the ones who will be forced to leave! For this land is not secure! Sin will thoroughly destroy it!
If a liar and deceiver comes and says, 'I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer,' that would be just the prophet for this people!11If a lying windbag should come and say, 'I'll promise you blessings of wine and beer,' he would be just the right preacher for these people!
"I will surely gather all of you, Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people.12I will certainly gather all of you, O Jacob, I will certainly assemble those Israelites who remain. I will bring them together like sheep in a fold, like a flock in the middle of a pasture; they will be so numerous that they will make a lot of noise.
The One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their King will pass through before them, the LORD at their head."13The one who can break through barriers will lead them out they will break out, pass through the gate, and leave. Their king will advance before them, The LORD himself will lead them.
