New International VersionNew Living Translation
But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.1But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and livestock with him in the boat. He sent a wind to blow across the earth, and the floodwaters began to recede.
Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky.2The underground waters stopped flowing, and the torrential rains from the sky were stopped.
The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down,3So the floodwaters gradually receded from the earth. After 150 days,
and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.4exactly five months from the time the flood began, the boat came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.5Two and a half months later, as the waters continued to go down, other mountain peaks became visible.
After forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark6After another forty days, Noah opened the window he had made in the boat
and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth.7and released a raven. The bird flew back and forth until the floodwaters on the earth had dried up.
Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground.8He also released a dove to see if the water had receded and it could find dry ground.
But the dove could find nowhere to perch because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark.9But the dove could find no place to land because the water still covered the ground. So it returned to the boat, and Noah held out his hand and drew the dove back inside.
He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark.10After waiting another seven days, Noah released the dove again.
When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.11This time the dove returned to him in the evening with a fresh olive leaf in its beak. Then Noah knew that the floodwaters were almost gone.
He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him.12He waited another seven days and then released the dove again. This time it did not come back.
By the first day of the first month of Noah's six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry.13Noah was now 601 years old. On the first day of the new year, ten and a half months after the flood began, the floodwaters had almost dried up from the earth. Noah lifted back the covering of the boat and saw that the surface of the ground was drying.
By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry.14Two more months went by, and at last the earth was dry!
Then God said to Noah,15Then God said to Noah,
"Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives.16“Leave the boat, all of you—you and your wife, and your sons and their wives.
Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you--the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground--so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on it."17Release all the animals—the birds, the livestock, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—so they can be fruitful and multiply throughout the earth.”
So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives.18So Noah, his wife, and his sons and their wives left the boat.
All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds--everything that moves on land--came out of the ark, one kind after another.19And all of the large and small animals and birds came out of the boat, pair by pair.
Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.20Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and there he sacrificed as burnt offerings the animals and birds that had been approved for that purpose.
The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.21And the LORD was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice and said to himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of the human race, even though everything they think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood. I will never again destroy all living things.
"As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."22As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.”
