John 17
NIV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New International VersionNew Living Translation
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.1After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.
For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.2 For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.3 And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.4 I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.5 Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
"I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.6 “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.7 Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you,
For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.8 for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.
I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.9 “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you.
All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.10 All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory.
I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.11 Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.
While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.12 During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me. I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.
"I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.13 “Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.
I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.14 I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.
They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.16 They do not belong to this world any more than I do.
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.
As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.18 Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world.
For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.19 And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.
that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one--22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one.
I in them and you in me--so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.
"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.24 Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!
"Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.25 “O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me.
I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."26 I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”
