Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.1We must, therefore, pay even more attention to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.
For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward,2For if the message spoken through angels was legally binding and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment,
how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,3how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.
God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?4At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to His will.
For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels.5For He has not subjected to angels the world to come that we are talking about.
But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him?6But one has somewhere testified: What is man that You remember him, or the son of man that You care for him?
You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands.7You made him lower than the angels for a short time; You crowned him with glory and honor
You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.8and subjected everything under his feet. For in subjecting everything to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. As it is, we do not yet see everything subjected to him.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.9But we do see Jesus--made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God's grace He might taste death for everyone--crowned with glory and honor because of His suffering in death.
For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.10For in bringing many sons to glory, it was entirely appropriate that God--all things exist for Him and through Him--should make the source of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,11For the One who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers,
saying: “I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.”12saying: I will proclaim Your name to My brothers; I will sing hymns to You in the congregation.
And again: “I will put My trust in Him.” And again: “Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.”13Again, I will trust in Him. And again, Here I am with the children God gave Me.
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,14Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death--that is, the Devil--
and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.15and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.
For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.16For it is clear that He does not reach out to help angels, but to help Abraham's offspring.
Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.17Therefore, He had to be like His brothers in every way, so that He could become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.18For since He Himself was tested and has suffered, He is able to help those who are tested.
