New King James VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:1Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed,
Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly;2shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;
nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;3nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.
and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”5You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,6Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,
casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.7casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.8Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.9But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.10After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.
To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.11To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.
By Silvanus, our faithful brother as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.12Through Silvanus, our faithful brother (for so I regard him), I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!
She who is in Babylon, elect together with you, greets you; and so does Mark my son.13She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and so does my son, Mark.
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ.
