New King James VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you,1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,
not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?5Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?
And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.6And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.8Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;
The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,
and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.10and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,11For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,
that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.12in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.
But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,13But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.15So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace,16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.17comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
