Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you,1Now regarding the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to be with him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,
not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.2not to be easily shaken from your composure or disturbed by any kind of spirit or message or letter allegedly from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here.
Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not arrive until the rebellion comes and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction.
who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.4He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, and as a result he takes his seat in God's temple, displaying himself as God.
Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?5Surely you recall that I used to tell you these things while I was still with you.
And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.6And so you know what holds him back, so that he will be revealed in his own time.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.7For the hidden power of lawlessness is already at work. However, the one who holds him back will do so until he is taken out of the way,
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.8and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy by the breath of his mouth and wipe out by the manifestation of his arrival.
The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,9The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan's working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders,
and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.10and with every kind of evil deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved.
And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,11Consequently God sends on them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.
that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.12And so all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned.
But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,13But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14He called you to this salvation through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.15Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace,16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,
comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good thing you do or say.
