When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.1When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.2And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.3And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.5Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.
And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.6And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.
Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?7They were amazed and astonished, saying, "Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?8"And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?
Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,9"Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”11Cretans and Arabs-- we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God."
So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”12And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"
Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”13But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine."
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.14But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.
For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.15"For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day;
But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:16but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:
‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.17'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;
And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.18EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.
I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.19'AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.20'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.
And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.’21'AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—22"Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know--
Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;23this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.
whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.24"But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.
For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the LORD always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.25"For David says of Him, 'I SAW THE LORD ALWAYS IN MY PRESENCE; FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.
Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.26'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE EXULTED; MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE;
For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.27BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.
You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’28'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'
“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.29"Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,30"And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,
he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.31he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY.
This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.32"This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.
Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.33"Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.
“For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,34"For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ’35UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'
“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”36"Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ-- this Jesus whom you crucified."
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”37Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.38Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”39"For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."
And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”40And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!"
Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.41So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.42They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.43Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.
Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,44And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common;
and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.45and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.
So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,46Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,
praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.47praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
