Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.1From Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you!
We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers,2We thank God always for all of you as we mention you constantly in our prayers,
remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father,3because we recall in the presence of our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and endurance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.4We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you,
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.5in that our gospel did not come to you merely in words, but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction (surely you recall the character we displayed when we came among you to help you).
And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,6And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, when you received the message with joy that comes from the Holy Spirit, despite great affliction.
so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe.7As a result you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.
For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything.8For from you the message of the Lord has echoed forth not just in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place reports of your faith in God have spread, so that we do not need to say anything.
For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,9For people everywhere report how you welcomed us and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.10and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus our deliverer from the coming wrath.
