New King James VersionNew Living Translation
Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them,1Then the people began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them.
that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.2The sons of God saw the beautiful women and took any they wanted as their wives.
And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”3Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”
There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.4In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.5The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.
And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.6So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart.
So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”7And the LORD said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.8But Noah found favor with the LORD. The Story of Noah
This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.9This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.
And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.10Noah was the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.11Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence.
So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.12God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt.
And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.13So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!
Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.14“Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior.
And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.15Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.
You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.16Leave an 18-inch opening below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper.
And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.17“Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die.
But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.18But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives.
And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.19Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood.
Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.20Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive.
And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.”21And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.”
Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.22So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.
