NLT Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationInternational Standard Version
Then the people began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them.1Now after the population of human beings had increased throughout the earth, and daughters had been born to them,
The sons of God saw the beautiful women and took any they wanted as their wives.2some divine beings noticed how attractive human women were, so they took wives for themselves from a selection that pleased them.
Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”3So the LORD said, "My Spirit won't remain with human beings forever, because they're truly mortal. Their lifespan will be 120 years."
In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.4The Nephilim were on the earth at that time (and also immediately afterward), when those divine beings were having sexual relations with those human women, who gave birth to children for them. These children became the heroes and legendary figures of ancient times.
The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.5The LORD saw that human evil was growing more and more throughout the earth, with every inclination of people's thoughts becoming only evil on a continuous basis.
So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart.6Then the LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and he was deeply grieved about that.
And the LORD said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”7So the LORD said, "I will annihilate these human beings whom I've created from the earth, including people, animals, crawling things, and flying creatures, because I'm grieving that I made them."
But Noah found favor with the LORD. The Story of Noah8The LORD was pleased with Noah, however.
This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.9These are the family records of Noah: Noah was a righteous man. Blameless during his times, Noah communed with God.
Noah was the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.10Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence.11By this time, the earth had become ruined in God's opinion and filled with violence.
God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt.12God looked at the earth, observing how corrupt its population had become, because the entire human race had corrupted itself.
So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!13So God announced to Noah, "I've decided to destroy every living thing on earth, because it has become filled with violence due to them. Look! I'm about to annihilate them, along with the earth.
“Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior.14So make yourself an ark out of cedar, constructing compartments in it, and cover it inside and out with tar.
Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.15Make the ark like this: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.
Leave an 18-inch opening below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper.16Make a roof for the ark, and finish the walls to within one cubit from the top. Place the entrance in the side of the ark, and build a lower, a middle, and an upper deck.
“Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die.17"For my part, I'm about to flood the earth with water and destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die.
But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives.18However, I will establish my own covenant with you, and you are to enter the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives.
Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood.19You are to bring two of every living thing into the ark so they may remain alive with you. They are to be male and female.
Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive.20From birds according to their species, from domestic animals according to their species, and from everything that crawls on the ground according to their species —two of everything will come to you so they may remain alive.
And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.”21For your part, take some of the edible food and store it away—these stores will be food for you and the animals."
So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.22Noah did all of this, precisely as God had commanded.
