Praise the LORD, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.1A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him. He makes the nations submit to me.2My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.
O LORD, what are human beings that you should notice them, mere mortals that you should think about them?3LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!
For they are like a breath of air; their days are like a passing shadow.4Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
Open the heavens, LORD, and come down. Touch the mountains so they billow smoke.5Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
Hurl your lightning bolts and scatter your enemies! Shoot your arrows and confuse them!6Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them.
Reach down from heaven and rescue me; rescue me from deep waters, from the power of my enemies.7Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children;
Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead.8Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
I will sing a new song to you, O God! I will sing your praises with a ten-stringed harp.9I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.
For you grant victory to kings! You rescued your servant David from the fatal sword.10It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword.
Save me! Rescue me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead.11Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:
May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace.12That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:
May our barns be filled with crops of every kind. May the flocks in our fields multiply by the thousands, even tens of thousands,13That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets:
and may our oxen be loaded down with produce. May there be no enemy breaking through our walls, no going into captivity, no cries of alarm in our town squares.14That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.
Yes, joyful are those who live like this! Joyful indeed are those whose God is the LORD.15Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.
