Psalm 51
NLT Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationKing James Bible
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night.3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice.8Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness.14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you.15O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering.16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Look with favor on Zion and help her; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then you will be pleased with sacrifices offered in the right spirit— with burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings. Then bulls will again be sacrificed on your altar.19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
