This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. We are writing to the church in Thessalonica, to you who belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.1Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Encouragement during Persecution2Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.3We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;
We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering.4therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.
And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering.5This is a plain indication of God's righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.
In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.6For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels,7and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,
in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.8dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.9These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him.10when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed-- for our testimony to you was believed.
So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.11To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,
Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.12so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
