Proverbs 9
NLT Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns.1Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;
She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.2She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table;
She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.3She has sent out her maidens, she calls From the tops of the heights of the city:
“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,4"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks understanding she says,
“Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.5"Come, eat of my food And drink of the wine I have mixed.
Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”6"Forsake your folly and live, And proceed in the way of understanding."
Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.7He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, And he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself.
So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.8Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you.
Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.9Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.
Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life.11For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.
If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer. Folly Calls for a Hearing12If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone will bear it.
The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it.13The woman of folly is boisterous, She is naive and knows nothing.
She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city.14She sits at the doorway of her house, On a seat by the high places of the city,
She calls out to men going by who are minding their own business.15Calling to those who pass by, Who are making their paths straight:
“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,16"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," And to him who lacks understanding she says,
“Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!”17"Stolen water is sweet; And bread eaten in secret is pleasant."
But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.18But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
