NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land.1Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the women of the land.1Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the daughters of the land.1And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.1Dinah, Leah's daughter whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see some of the young women of the area.
When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and raped her.2And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he seized her and lay with her and humiliated her.2When Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he took her and lay with her by force.2And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her.2When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, a prince of the region, saw her, he took her and raped her.
His heart was drawn to Dinah daughter of Jacob; he loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her.3And his soul was drawn to Dinah the daughter of Jacob. He loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her.3He was deeply attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.3And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.3He became infatuated with Dinah, daughter of Jacob. He loved the young girl and spoke tenderly to her."
And Shechem said to his father Hamor, "Get me this girl as my wife."4So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, “Get me this girl for my wife.”4So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, "Get me this young girl for a wife."4And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.4Get me this girl as a wife," he told his father Hamor.

When Jacob heard that his daughter Dinah had been defiled, his sons were in the fields with his livestock; so he did nothing about it until they came home.5Now Jacob heard that he had defiled his daughter Dinah. But his sons were with his livestock in the field, so Jacob held his peace until they came.5Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; but his sons were with his livestock in the field, so Jacob kept silent until they came in.5And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.5Jacob heard that Shechem had defiled his daughter Dinah, but since his sons were with his livestock in the field, he remained silent until they returned.
Then Shechem's father Hamor went out to talk with Jacob.6And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.6Then Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.6And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.6Meanwhile, Shechem's father Hamor came to speak with Jacob.
Meanwhile, Jacob's sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked and furious, because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter--a thing that should not be done.7The sons of Jacob had come in from the field as soon as they heard of it, and the men were indignant and very angry, because he had done an outrageous thing in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter, for such a thing must not be done.7Now the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved, and they were very angry because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, for such a thing ought not to be done.7And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done.7Jacob's sons returned from the field when they heard about the incident and were deeply grieved and angry. For Shechem had committed an outrage against Israel by raping Jacob's daughter, and such a thing should not be done.
But Hamor said to them, "My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.8But Hamor spoke with them, saying, “The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter. Please give her to him to be his wife.8But Hamor spoke with them, saying, "The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter; please give her to him in marriage.8And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.8Hamor said to Jacob's sons, "My son Shechem is strongly attracted to your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.
Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.9Make marriages with us. Give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.9"Intermarry with us; give your daughters to us and take our daughters for yourselves.9And make ye marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.9Intermarry with us; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.

You can settle among us; the land is open to you. Live in it, trade in it, and acquire property in it."10You shall dwell with us, and the land shall be open to you. Dwell and trade in it, and get property in it.”10"Thus you shall live with us, and the land shall be open before you; live and trade in it and acquire property in it."10And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.10Live with us. The land is before you. Settle here, move about, and acquire property in it."
Then Shechem said to Dinah's father and brothers, "Let me find favor in your eyes, and I will give you whatever you ask.11Shechem also said to her father and to her brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you say to me I will give.11Shechem also said to her father and to her brothers, "If I find favor in your sight, then I will give whatever you say to me.11And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.11Then Shechem said to Dinah's father and brothers, "Grant me this favor, and I'll give you whatever you say.
Make the price for the bride and the gift I am to bring as great as you like, and I'll pay whatever you ask me. Only give me the young woman as my wife."12Ask me for as great a bride-price and gift as you will, and I will give whatever you say to me. Only give me the young woman to be my wife.”12"Ask me ever so much bridal payment and gift, and I will give according as you say to me; but give me the girl in marriage."12Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.12Demand of me a high compensation and gift; I'll give you whatever you ask me. Just give the girl to be my wife!"

The Revenge of Dinah's Brothers

Because their sister Dinah had been defiled, Jacob's sons replied deceitfully as they spoke to Shechem and his father Hamor.13The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and his father Hamor deceitfully, because he had defiled their sister Dinah.13But Jacob's sons answered Shechem and his father Hamor with deceit, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.13And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:13But Jacob's sons answered Shechem and his father Hamor deceitfully because he had defiled their sister Dinah. "
They said to them, "We can't do such a thing; we can't give our sister to a man who is not circumcised. That would be a disgrace to us.14They said to them, “We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a disgrace to us.14They said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a disgrace to us.14And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:14We cannot do this thing," they said to them. "Giving our sister to an uncircumcised man is a disgrace to us.
We will enter into an agreement with you on one condition only: that you become like us by circumcising all your males.15Only on this condition will we agree with you—that you will become as we are by every male among you being circumcised.15"Only on this condition will we consent to you: if you will become like us, in that every male of you be circumcised,15But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;15We will agree with you only on this condition: if all your males are circumcised as we are.
Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves. We'll settle among you and become one people with you.16Then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to ourselves, and we will dwell with you and become one people.16then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters for ourselves, and we will live with you and become one people.16Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.16Then we will give you our daughters, take your daughters for ourselves, live with you, and become one people.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
But if you will not agree to be circumcised, we'll take our sister and go."17But if you will not listen to us and be circumcised, then we will take our daughter, and we will be gone.”17"But if you will not listen to us to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and go."17But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.17But if you will not listen to us and be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and go."
Their proposal seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem.18Their words pleased Hamor and Hamor’s son Shechem.18Now their words seemed reasonable to Hamor and Shechem, Hamor's son.18And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son.18Their words seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem.
The young man, who was the most honored of all his father's family, lost no time in doing what they said, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter.19And the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob’s daughter. Now he was the most honored of all his father’s house.19The young man did not delay to do the thing, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter. Now he was more respected than all the household of his father.19And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.19The young man did not delay doing this, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter. Now he was the most important in all his father's house.
So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city to speak to the men of their city.20So Hamor and his son Shechem came to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city, saying,20So Hamor and his son Shechem came to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city, saying,20And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,20So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city and spoke to the men there."
"These men are friendly toward us," they said. "Let them live in our land and trade in it; the land has plenty of room for them. We can marry their daughters and they can marry ours.21“These men are at peace with us; let them dwell in the land and trade in it, for behold, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters as wives, and let us give them our daughters.21"These men are friendly with us; therefore let them live in the land and trade in it, for behold, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters in marriage, and give our daughters to them.21These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.21These men are peaceful toward us," they said. "Let them live in our land and move about in it, for indeed, the region is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters as our wives and give our daughters to them.

But the men will agree to live with us as one people only on the condition that our males be circumcised, as they themselves are.22Only on this condition will the men agree to dwell with us to become one people—when every male among us is circumcised as they are circumcised.22"Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people: that every male among us be circumcised as they are circumcised.22Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.22But the men will agree to live with us and be one people only on this condition: if all our men are circumcised as they are.
Won't their livestock, their property and all their other animals become ours? So let us agree to their terms, and they will settle among us."23Will not their livestock, their property and all their beasts be ours? Only let us agree with them, and they will dwell with us.”23"Will not their livestock and their property and all their animals be ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will live with us."23Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.23Won't their livestock, their possessions, and all their animals become ours? Only let us agree with them, and they will live with us."
All the men who went out of the city gate agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male in the city was circumcised.24And all who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.24All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and to his son Shechem, and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.24And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.24All the able-bodied men listened to Hamor and his son Shechem, and all the able-bodied men were circumcised.
Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male.25On the third day, when they were sore, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and came against the city while it felt secure and killed all the males.25Now it came about on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword and came upon the city unawares, and killed every male.25And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.25On the third day, when they were still in pain, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords, went into the unsuspecting city, and killed every male.
They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword and took Dinah from Shechem's house and left.26They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house and went away.26They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah from Shechem's house, and went forth.26And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.26They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with their swords, took Dinah from Shechem's house, and went away.

The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city where their sister had been defiled.27The sons of Jacob came upon the slain and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.27Jacob's sons came upon the slain and looted the city, because they had defiled their sister.27The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.27Jacob's other sons came to the slaughter and plundered the city because their sister had been defiled.
They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields.28They took their flocks and their herds, their donkeys, and whatever was in the city and in the field.28They took their flocks and their herds and their donkeys, and that which was in the city and that which was in the field;28They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,28They took their sheep, cattle, donkeys, and whatever was in the city and in the field.
They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children, taking as plunder everything in the houses.29All their wealth, all their little ones and their wives, all that was in the houses, they captured and plundered.29and they captured and looted all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives, even all that was in the houses.29And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house.29They captured all their possessions, children, and wives and plundered everything in the houses.
Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me by making me obnoxious to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed."30Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble on me by making me stink to the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. My numbers are few, and if they gather themselves against me and attack me, I shall be destroyed, both I and my household.”30Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me by making me odious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and my men being few in number, they will gather together against me and attack me and I will be destroyed, I and my household."30And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.30Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me, making me odious to the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. We are few in number; if they unite against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed."
But they replied, "Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?"31But they said, “Should he treat our sister like a prostitute?”31But they said, "Should he treat our sister as a harlot?"31And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?31But they answered, "Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?"
