O that you were to me like a brother who nursed at my mother’s breasts! If I found you outdoors, I would kiss you, and no one would despise me. Oh that you were like a brother to me who nursed at my mother’s breasts! If I found you outside, I would kiss you, and none would despise me. O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised. “Oh that you were like a brother to me Who nursed at my mother’s breasts. If I found you outdoors, I would kiss you; No one would despise me, either. If only you were to me like a brother, who was nursed at my mother’s breasts! Then, if I found you outside, I would kiss you, and no one would despise me.
I would lead you and bring you to the house of my mother who taught me. I would give you spiced wine to drink, the nectar of my pomegranates. I would lead you and bring you into the house of my mother— she who used to teach me. I would give you spiced wine to drink, the juice of my pomegranate. I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate. “I would lead you and bring you Into the house of my mother, who used to instruct me; I would give you spiced wine to drink from the juice of my pomegranates. I would lead you and bring you to my mother’s house— she who has taught me. I would give you spiced wine to drink, the nectar of my pomegranates.
His left hand is under my head, and his right arm embraces me. His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me! His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me. “Let his left hand be under my head, And his right hand embrace me.” His left arm is under my head and his right arm embraces me.
O daughters of Jerusalem, I adjure you: Do not arouse or awaken love until the time is right. I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that you not stir up or awaken love until it pleases. I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please. “Swear to me, you daughters of Jerusalem: Do not disturb or awaken my love Until she pleases.” Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.
Who is this coming up from the wilderness, leaning on her beloved? I roused you under the apple tree; there your mother conceived you; there she travailed and brought you forth. Who is that coming up from the wilderness, leaning on her beloved? Under the apple tree I awakened you. There your mother was in labor with you; there she who bore you was in labor. Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee. “Who is this coming up from the wilderness, Leaning on her beloved?” “Beneath the apple tree I awakened you; There your mother went into labor with you, There she was in labor and gave birth to you. Who is this coming up from the wilderness leaning on her beloved? She Under the apple tree I roused you; there your mother conceived you, there she who was in labor gave you birth.
Set me as a seal over your heart, as a seal upon your arm. For love is as strong as death, its jealousy as unrelenting as Sheol. Its sparks are fiery flames, the fiercest blaze of all. Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. “Put me like a seal over your heart, Like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, Jealousy is as severe as Sheol; Its flames are flames of fire, The flame of the LORD. Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.
Mighty waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If a man were to give all the wealth of his house for love, his offer would be utterly scorned. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. “Many waters cannot quench love, Nor will rivers flood over it; If a man were to give all the riches of his house for love, It would be utterly despised.” Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned.
We have a little sister, and her breasts are not yet grown. What shall we do for our sister on the day she is spoken for? We have a little sister, and she has no breasts. What shall we do for our sister on the day when she is spoken for? We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for? “We have a little sister, And she has no breasts; What shall we do for our sister On the day when she is spoken for? We have a little sister, and her breasts are not yet grown. What shall we do for our sister on the day she is spoken for?
If she is a wall, we will build a tower of silver to protect her. If she is a door, we will enclose her with panels of cedar. If she is a wall, we will build on her a battlement of silver, but if she is a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar. If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar. “If she is a wall, We will build on her a battlement of silver; But if she is a door, We will barricade her with planks of cedar.” If she is a wall, we will build towers of silver on her. If she is a door, we will enclose her with panels of cedar.
I am a wall, and my breasts are like towers. So I have become in his eyes like one who brings peace. I was a wall, and my breasts were like towers; then I was in his eyes as one who finds peace. I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour. “I was a wall, and my breasts were like towers; Then I became in his eyes as one who finds peace. I am a wall, and my breasts are like towers. Thus I have become in his eyes like one bringing contentment.
Solomon had a vineyard in Baal-hamon. He leased it to the tenants. For its fruit, each was to bring a thousand shekels of silver. Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard to keepers; each one was to bring for its fruit a thousand pieces of silver. Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver. “Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; He entrusted the vineyard to caretakers. Each one was to bring a thousand shekels of silver for its fruit. Solomon had a vineyard in Baal Hamon; he let out his vineyard to tenants. Each was to bring for its fruit a thousand shekels of silver.
But my own vineyard is mine to give; the thousand shekels are for you, O Solomon, and two hundred are for those who tend its fruit. My vineyard, my very own, is before me; you, O Solomon, may have the thousand, and the keepers of the fruit two hundred. My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred. “My very own vineyard is at my disposal; The thousand shekels are for you, Solomon, And two hundred are for those who take care of its fruit.” But my own vineyard is mine to give; the thousand shekels are for you, Solomon, and two hundred are for those who tend its fruit.
You who dwell in the gardens, my companions are listening for your voice. Let me hear it! O you who dwell in the gardens, with companions listening for your voice; let me hear it. Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it. “You who sit in the gardens: My companions are listening for your voice— Let me hear it!” You who dwell in the gardens with friends in attendance, let me hear your voice!
Come away, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices. Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices. Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices. “Hurry, my beloved, And be like a gazelle or a young stag On the mountains of balsam trees!” Come away, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or like a young stag on the spice-laden mountains.
