In what ways can we embody Christ's humility in our daily interactions? Scripture Focus “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me; and whoever welcomes Me welcomes not only Me, but the One who sent Me.” — Mark 9:37 The Heart of the Passage Jesus places a literal child in front of grown men who have just argued about status. By telling them to “welcome” the child, He makes humility visible: lowering ourselves to serve the smallest, the unnoticed, the powerless. In doing so we receive Christ Himself and honor the Father. How Christ Modeled Humility • Stepped down from glory and “emptied Himself” (Philippians 2:6-8). • Washed His disciples’ dusty feet (John 13:14-15). • Spoke gently to outcasts and children (Matthew 19:14). • Obeyed the Father to the point of the cross (Hebrews 5:8). Everyday Practices That Mirror His Humility Attitude • Prefer others above yourself: “in humility consider others more important than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3). • Stay teachable; accept correction without defensiveness (Proverbs 12:1). Words • Speak last so others feel heard (James 1:19). • Give credit freely; resist self-promotion (Proverbs 27:2). Actions • Notice and greet the “little ones” of your context—children, interns, custodial staff, the lonely. • Volunteer for tasks no one else wants (trash duty, setup, dishwashing). • Carry another’s burden: deliver a meal, give a ride, cover a shift (Galatians 6:2). Relationships • Forgive quickly, because Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32). • Seek reconciliation even when you were technically “right” (Romans 12:18). • Honor authorities—parents, employers, church leaders—without grumbling (1 Peter 2:13-17).
