The Proclamation of Cyrus
(2 Chronicles 36:22–23; Isaiah 45:1–25)

1  וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת (And in the year) אַחַ֗ת (of first) לְכ֙וֹרֶשׁ֙ (Cyrus) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) פָּרַ֔ס (of Persia), לִכְל֥וֹת (to fulfill) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) מִפִּ֣י (by the mouth) יִרְמְיָ֑ה (of Jeremiah), הֵעִ֣יר (stirred up) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) ר֙וּחַ֙ (the spirit) כֹּ֣רֶשׁ (of Cyrus) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) פָּרַ֔ס (of Persia), וַיַּֽעֲבֶר־ (and he caused to pass over) קוֹל֙ (a proclamation) בְּכָל־ (throughout all) מַלְכוּת֔וֹ (his kingdom), וְגַם־ (and also) בְּמִכְתָּ֖ב (in writing), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying),

2  כֹּ֣ה (Thus) אָמַ֗ר (says) כֹּ֚רֶשׁ (Cyrus) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) פָּרַ֔ס (of Persia),

כֹּ֚ל (All) מַמְלְכ֣וֹת (the kingdoms) הָאָ֔רֶץ (of the earth) נָ֣תַן (has given) לִ֔י (to me) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם (of the heavens), וְהֽוּא־ (and He) פָקַ֤ד (has commanded) עָלַי֙ (to me) לִבְנֽוֹת־ (to build) ל֣וֹ (for Him) בַ֔יִת (a house) בִּירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם (in Jerusalem) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which is) בִּֽיהוּדָֽה׃ (in Judah).

3  מִֽי־ (Who is) בָכֶ֣ם (among you⁺) מִכָּל־ (of all) עַמּ֗וֹ (His people)? יְהִ֤י (May be) אֱלֹהָיו֙ (his God) עִמּ֔וֹ (with him) וְיַ֕עַל (and let him go up) לִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם (to Jerusalem) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which is) בִּיהוּדָ֑ה (in Judah), וְיִ֗בֶן (and build) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֤ית (the house) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel)— ה֥וּא (He is) הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים (the God) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (is in Jerusalem). 4  וְכָל־ (And whoever) הַנִּשְׁאָ֗ר (is left) מִֽכָּל־ (in any) הַמְּקֹמוֹת֮ (place) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (where) ה֣וּא (he) גָֽר־ (is a sojourner) שָׁם֒ (in it), יְנַשְּׂא֙וּהוּ֙ (let help him) אַנְשֵׁ֣י (the men) מְקֹמ֔וֹ (of his place) בְּכֶ֥סֶף (with silver), וּבְזָהָ֖ב (and with gold), וּבִרְכ֣וּשׁ (and with goods), וּבִבְהֵמָ֑ה (and with livestock), עִם־ (along with) הַ֨נְּדָבָ֔ה (the freewill offerings) לְבֵ֥ית (for the house) הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים (of God) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which is) בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (in Jerusalem).

5  וַיָּק֜וּמוּ (And arose) רָאשֵׁ֣י (the heads) הָאָב֗וֹת (of the fathers) לִֽיהוּדָה֙ (of Judah) וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן (and Benjamin), וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים (and the priests), וְהַלְוִיִּ֑ם (and the Levites), לְכֹ֨ל (with all who) הֵעִ֤יר (had moved) הָאֱלֹהִים֙ (God) אֶת־ (-) רוּח֔וֹ (the spirit) לַעֲל֣וֹת (to go up) לִבְנ֔וֹת (and build) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֥ית (the house) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which is) בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (in Jerusalem).

6  וְכָל־ (And all) סְבִיבֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ (around them) חִזְּק֣וּ (strengthened) בִֽידֵיהֶ֔ם (their hands) בִּכְלֵי־ (with articles) כֶ֧סֶף (of silver), בַּזָּהָ֛ב (with gold), בָּרְכ֥וּשׁ (with goods), וּבַבְּהֵמָ֖ה (and with livestock), וּבַמִּגְדָּנ֑וֹת (and with precious things), לְבַ֖ד (in addition) עַל־ (to) כָּל־ (all) הִתְנַדֵּֽב׃ס (that was freely offered).

Cyrus Restores the Holy Vessels

7  וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (And King) כּ֔וֹרֶשׁ (Cyrus) הוֹצִ֖יא (brought out) אֶת־ (-) כְּלֵ֣י (the articles) בֵית־ (of the house) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) הוֹצִ֤יא (had taken) נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּר֙ (Nebuchadnezzar) מִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (from Jerusalem), וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם (and he put them) בְּבֵ֥ית (in the temple) אֱלֹהָֽיו׃ (of his gods). 8  וַיּֽוֹצִיאֵ֗ם (And brought them out) כּ֚וֹרֶשׁ (Cyrus) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) פָּרַ֔ס (of Persia) עַל־ (by) יַ֖ד (the hand) מִתְרְדָ֣ת (of Mithredath) הַגִּזְבָּ֑ר (the treasurer), וַֽיִּסְפְּרֵם֙ (and he counted them out) לְשֵׁשְׁבַּצַּ֔ר (to Sheshbazzar) הַנָּשִׂ֖יא (the prince) לִיהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah). 9  וְאֵ֖לֶּה (And these are) מִסְפָּרָ֑ם (their numbers):

אֲגַרְטְלֵ֨י (Dishes) זָהָ֜ב (gold), שְׁלֹשִׁ֗ים (thirty);

אֲגַרְטְלֵי־ (dishes) כֶ֙סֶף֙ (silver), אָ֔לֶף (a thousand);

מַחֲלָפִ֖ים (knives), תִּשְׁעָ֥ה (nine) וְעֶשְׂרִֽים׃ס (and twenty);

10  כְּפוֹרֵ֤י (bowls) זָהָב֙ (gold), שְׁלֹשִׁ֔ים (thirty);

כְּפ֤וֹרֵי (bowls) כֶ֙סֶף֙ (of silver) מִשְׁנִ֔ים (seconds), אַרְבַּ֥ע (four) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) וַעֲשָׂרָ֑ה (and ten);

כֵּלִ֥ים (articles) אֲחֵרִ֖ים (other), אָֽלֶף׃ס (a thousand).

11  כָּל־ (All were) כֵּלִים֙ (the articles) לַזָּהָ֣ב (of the gold) וְלַכֶּ֔סֶף (and of the silver) חֲמֵ֥שֶׁת (five) אֲלָפִ֖ים (thousand) וְאַרְבַּ֣ע (and four) מֵא֑וֹת (hundred). הַכֹּ֞ל (All this) הֶעֱלָ֣ה (brought up) שֵׁשְׁבַּצַּ֗ר (Sheshbazzar) עִ֚ם (with) הֵעָל֣וֹת (the going up) הַגּוֹלָ֔ה (of the exiles) מִבָּבֶ֖ל (from Babylon) לִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃פ (to Jerusalem).
