The Wedding at Cana

1  Καὶ (And) τῇ (on the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (-) τρίτῃ (third) γάμος (a wedding) ἐγένετο (came to pass) ἐν (in) Κανὰ (Cana) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (of Galilee), καὶ (and) ἦν (was) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) ἐκεῖ (there)· 2  ἐκλήθη (Was invited) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) γάμον (wedding). 3  καὶ (And) ὑστερήσαντος (having fallen short) οἴνου (the wine) λέγει (says) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him)· Οἶνον (Wine) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (they have).

4  Καὶ (And) λέγει (says) αὐτῇ (to her) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Τί (What) ἐμοὶ (to Me) καὶ (and) σοί (to you), γύναι (woman)? οὔπω (Not yet) ἥκει (is come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) μου (of Me).

5  Λέγει (Says) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τοῖς (to the) διακόνοις (servants)· Ὅ (Whatever) τι (anything) ἂν (-) λέγῃ (He may say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), ποιήσατε (do).

6  Ἦσαν (There were) δὲ (now) ἐκεῖ (there) λίθιναι (of stone) ὑδρίαι (water jars) ἓξ (six) κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) καθαρισμὸν (purification) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews) κείμεναι (lying), χωροῦσαι (having space) ἀνὰ (for) μετρητὰς (metretae) δύο (two) ἢ (or) τρεῖς (three). 7  λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Γεμίσατε (Fill) τὰς (the) ὑδρίας (water jars) ὕδατος (with water).

Καὶ (And) ἐγέμισαν (they filled) αὐτὰς (them) ἕως (up to) ἄνω (the top).

8  Καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἀντλήσατε (Draw some out) νῦν (now) καὶ (and) φέρετε (carry it) τῷ (to the) ἀρχιτρικλίνῳ (master of the feast).

Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἤνεγκαν (they carried it). 9  ὡς (As) δὲ (then) ἐγεύσατο (tasted) ὁ (the) ἀρχιτρίκλινος (master of the feast) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water) οἶνον (wine) γεγενημένον (that has become), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ᾔδει (he knew) πόθεν (from where) ἐστίν (it is), οἱ (the) δὲ (however) διάκονοι (servants) ᾔδεισαν (knew) οἱ (-) ἠντληκότες (having drawn) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water), φωνεῖ (calls) τὸν (the) νυμφίον (bridegroom) ὁ (the) ἀρχιτρίκλινος (master of the feast) 10  καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to him)· Πᾶς (Every) ἄνθρωπος (man) πρῶτον (first) τὸν (the) καλὸν (good) οἶνον (wine) τίθησιν (sets out), καὶ (and) ὅταν (when) μεθυσθῶσιν (they might have become drunk) τὸν (the) ἐλάσσω (inferior)· σὺ (you) τετήρηκας (have kept) τὸν (the) καλὸν (good) οἶνον (wine) ἕως (until) ἄρτι (now).

11  Ταύτην (This) ἐποίησεν (did) ἀρχὴν (the beginning) τῶν (of the) σημείων (signs) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐν (in) Κανὰ (Cana) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (of Galilee) καὶ (and) ἐφανέρωσεν (He revealed) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἐπίστευσαν (believed) εἰς (in) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

12  Μετὰ (After) τοῦτο (this) κατέβη (He went down) εἰς (to) Καφαρναοὺμ (Capernaum) αὐτὸς (He) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἐκεῖ (there) ἔμειναν (they stayed) οὐ (not) πολλὰς (many) ἡμέρας (days).

13  Καὶ (And) ἐγγὺς (near) ἦν (was) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), καὶ (and) ἀνέβη (went up) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus). 14  καὶ (And) εὗρεν (He found) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) τοὺς (those) πωλοῦντας (selling) βόας (oxen) καὶ (and) πρόβατα (sheep) καὶ (and) περιστερὰς (doves) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) κερματιστὰς (money changers) καθημένους (sitting), 15  καὶ (And) ποιήσας (having made) φραγέλλιον (a whip) ἐκ (out of) σχοινίων (cords) πάντας (all) ἐξέβαλεν (He cast out) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) ἱεροῦ (temple) τά (-) τε (both) πρόβατα (sheep) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) βόας (oxen), καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) κολλυβιστῶν (money changers) ἐξέχεεν (He poured out) τὰ (the) κέρματα (coins) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) τραπέζας (tables) ἀνέτρεψεν (He overturned), 16  καὶ (And) τοῖς (to those) τὰς (the) περιστερὰς (doves) πωλοῦσιν (selling) εἶπεν (He said)· Ἄρατε (Take) ταῦτα (these) ἐντεῦθεν (from here), μὴ (not) ποιεῖτε (make) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) οἶκον (a house) ἐμπορίου (of trade).

17  Ἐμνήσθησαν (Remembered) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) γεγραμμένον (written) ἐστίν (it is)· Ὁ (The) ζῆλος (zeal) τοῦ (of the) οἴκου (house) σου (of You) καταφάγεταί (will consume) με (Me).

18  Ἀπεκρίθησαν (Answered) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) καὶ (and) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Τί (What) σημεῖον (sign) δεικνύεις (do You show) ἡμῖν (to us), ὅτι (that) ταῦτα (these things) ποιεῖς (You do)?

19  Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Λύσατε (Destroy) τὸν (the) ναὸν (temple) τοῦτον (this), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τρισὶν (three) ἡμέραις (days) ἐγερῶ (I will raise up) αὐτόν (it).

20  Εἶπαν (Said) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews)· Τεσσεράκοντα (In forty) καὶ (and) ἓξ (six) ἔτεσιν (years) οἰκοδομήθη (was built) ὁ (the) ναὸς (temple) οὗτος (this), καὶ (and) σὺ (You) ἐν (in) τρισὶν (three) ἡμέραις (days) ἐγερεῖς (will raise up) αὐτόν (it)?

21  Ἐκεῖνος (He) δὲ (however) ἔλεγεν (was speaking) περὶ (about) τοῦ (the) ναοῦ (temple) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) αὐτοῦ (of Him). 22  ὅτε (When) οὖν (therefore) ἠγέρθη (He was raised up) ἐκ (from) νεκρῶν (the dead), ἐμνήσθησαν (remembered) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) τοῦτο (this) ἔλεγεν (He had said), καὶ (and) ἐπίστευσαν (they believed) τῇ (the) γραφῇ (Scripture) καὶ (and) τῷ (the) λόγῳ (word) ὃν (that) εἶπεν (said) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus).

23  Ὡς (As) δὲ (then) ἦν (He was) ἐν (in) τοῖς (-) Ἱεροσολύμοις (Jerusalem) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πάσχα (Passover) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἑορτῇ (Feast), πολλοὶ (many) ἐπίστευσαν (believed) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him), θεωροῦντες (beholding) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἃ (that) ἐποίει (He was doing)· 24  αὐτὸς (Himself) δὲ (however) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὐκ (not) ἐπίστευεν (was entrusting) αὑτὸν (Himself) αὐτοῖς (to them) διὰ (because of) τὸ (-) αὐτὸν (His) γινώσκειν (knowing) πάντας (all), 25  καὶ (and) ὅτι (because) οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) εἶχεν (He had) ἵνα (that) τις (anyone) μαρτυρήσῃ (should testify) περὶ (about) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (man)· αὐτὸς (He Himself) γὰρ (for) ἐγίνωσκεν (knew) τί (what) ἦν (was) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) ἀνθρώπῳ (man).
