1 If YHWH had not been for us—

now let Israel say—

2if YHWH had not been for us,

in the rising up of men against us,

3then they would have swallowed us alive,

in the burning of their anger against us;

4then the waters would have engulfed us,

the stream would have passed over our soul;

5then would have passed over our soul

the raging waters.

6Blessed be YHWH,

who has not given us as prey to their teeth!

7Our soul like a bird has escaped from the snare of the fowlers;

the snare is broken, and we have slipped away.

8Our help is in the name of YHWH,

the Maker of the heavens and the earth.
