Good News Translation
It was faith that made Abraham offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice when God put Abraham to the test. Abraham was the one to whom God had made the promise, yet he was ready to offer his only son as a sacrifice.

After these things, God tempted Abraham, and said to him: Abraham, Abraham. And he answered: Here I am.
And they came to the place which God had shewn him, where he built an altar, and laid the wood in order upon it; and when he had bound Isaac his son, he laid him on the altar upon the pile of wood.
All these died according to faith, not having received the promises but beholding them afar off and saluting them and confessing that they are pilgrims and strangers on the earth.
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, offering up Isaac his son upon the altar?
Seest thou that faith did cooperate with his works and by works faith was made perfect?
