…10The Lord hath heard, and hath had mercy on me: the Lord became my helper. 11Thou hast turned for me my mourning into joy: thou hast cut my sackcloth, and hast compassed me with gladness:12To the end that my glory may sing to thee, and I may not regret: O Lord my God, I will give praise to thee for ever.…
So Mary the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand: and all the women went forth after her with timbrels and with dances.
Because on those days the Jews revenged themselves of their enemies, and their mourning and sorrow were turned into mirth and joy, and that these should be days of feasting and gladness, in which they should send one to another portions of meats, and should give gifts to the poor.
By the fruit of their corn, their wine, and oil, they are multiplied:
The dwelling in thee is as it were of all rejoicing.
May it be unto him like a garment which covereth him; and like a girdle with which he is girded continually.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.
At that same time the Lord spoke by the hand of Isaiah the son of Amos, saying Go, and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and take off thy shoes from thy feet. And he did so, and went naked, and barefoot.
And I will build thee again, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy timbrels, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, the young men and old men together: and I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them joyful after their sorrow.
Thus saith the Lord of hosts: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Juda, joy, and gladness, and great solemnities: only love ye truth and peace.
