But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them. "You brood of snakes!" he exclaimed. "Who warned you to flee God's coming wrath?
One day as Jesus was teaching the people and preaching the Good News in the Temple, the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders came up to him.
and he went to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them.
The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.
When the captain of the Temple guard and the leading priests heard this, they were perplexed, wondering where it would all end.
This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council.
