The priests and prophets presented their accusations to the officials and the people. "This man should die!" they said. "You have heard with your own ears what a traitor he is, for he has prophesied against this city."

26:11 The priests - In the corrupt state of all kingdoms, the ecclesiastical officers always were the greatest enemies to the faithful ministers of God. They speak to the members of the court who are called princes, and to the people who were in the court.
Among those who had hoped for a permanent spiritual revival as the result of the reformation under Josiah was Jeremiah, called of God to the prophetic office while still a youth, in the thirteenth year of Josiah's reign.
