Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests. At this time a message from God came to John son of Zechariah, who was living in the wilderness.

At that same time the leading priests and elders were meeting at the residence of Caiaphas, the high priest,
just as the prophet Isaiah had written: "Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way.
He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the LORD's coming! Clear the road for him!'"
First they took him to Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest at that time.
Then Annas bound Jesus and sent him to Caiaphas, the high priest.
Annas the high priest was there, along with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and other relatives of the high priest.
