And by means of many wonders and miraculous signs, he led them out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and through the wilderness for forty years.
He put up with them through forty years of wandering in the wilderness.
So I was angry with them, and I said, 'Their hearts always turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.'
And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn't it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness?
In your love, you were patient with them for many years. You sent your Spirit, who warned them through the prophets. But still they wouldn't listen! So once again you allowed the peoples of the land to conquer them.
Oh, how often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved his heart in that dry wasteland.
You have not brought me fragrant calamus or pleased me with the fat from sacrifices. Instead, you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your faults.
