A Psalm of David, for remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.1LORD, do not punish me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me.2For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has pressed down on me.
There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin.3There is no soundness in my body because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin.
For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are a burden too heavy to bear.4For my iniquities have flooded over my head; they are a burden too heavy for me to bear.
My wounds are foul and festering because of my sinful folly.5My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness.
I am bent and brought low; all day long I go about mourning.6I am bent over and brought very low; all day long I go around in mourning.
For my loins are full of burning pain, and no soundness remains in my body.7For my insides are full of burning pain, and there is no soundness in my body.
I am numb and badly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.8I am faint and severely crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart.
O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You.9Lord, my every desire is in front of you; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart pounds, my strength fails, and even the light of my eyes has faded.10My heart races, my strength leaves me, and even the light of my eyes has faded.
My beloved and friends shun my disease, and my kinsmen stand at a distance.11My loved ones and friends stand back from my affliction, and my relatives stand at a distance.
Those who seek my life lay snares; those who wish me harm speak destruction, plotting deceit all day long.12Those who intend to kill me set traps, and those who want to harm me threaten to destroy me; they plot treachery all day long.
But like a deaf man, I do not hear; and like a mute man, I do not open my mouth.13I am like a deaf person; I do not hear. I am like a speechless person who does not open his mouth.
I am like a man who cannot hear, whose mouth offers no reply.14I am like a man who does not hear and has no arguments in his mouth.
I wait for You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord my God.15For I put my hope in you, LORD; you will answer me, my Lord, my God.
For I said, “Let them not gloat over me—those who taunt me when my foot slips.”16For I said, "Don't let them rejoice over me--those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble."
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me.17For I am about to fall, and my pain is constantly with me.
Yes, I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.18So I confess my iniquity; I am anxious because of my sin.
Many are my enemies without cause, and many hate me without reason.19But my enemies are vigorous and powerful; many hate me for no reason.
Those who repay my good with evil attack me for pursuing the good.20Those who repay evil for good attack me for pursuing good.
Do not forsake me, O LORD; be not far from me, O my God.21LORD, do not abandon me; my God, do not be far from me.
Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.22Hurry to help me, my Lord, my salvation.
