From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the LORD his God,1Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,
saying: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and He answered me. From the belly of Sheol I called for help, and You heard my voice.2And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current swirled about me; all Your breakers and waves swept over me.3For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’4Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
The waters engulfed me to take my life; the watery depths closed around me; the seaweed wrapped around my head.5The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me barred me in forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O LORD my God!6I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD. My prayer went up to You, to Your holy temple.7When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
Those who cling to worthless idols forsake His loving devotion.8They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
But I, with the voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!”9But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.10And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
