For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lilies.” A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.1To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
You are the most handsome of men; grace has anointed your lips, since God has blessed you forever.2Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Strap your sword at your side, O mighty warrior; appear in your majesty and splendor.3Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
In your splendor ride forth in victory on behalf of truth and humility and justice; may your right hand show your awesome deeds.4And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
Your arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s foes; the nations fall beneath your feet.5Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.6Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you above your companions with the oil of joy.7Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
All your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces of ivory the harps make you glad.8All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.
The daughters of kings are among your honored women; the queen stands at your right hand, adorned with the gold of Ophir.9Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.
Listen, O daughter! Consider and incline your ear: Forget your people and your father’s house,10Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;
and the king will desire your beauty; bow to him, for he is your lord.11So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.
The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor.12And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
All glorious is the princess in her chamber; her gown is embroidered with gold.13The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
In colorful garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions are brought before you.14She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king.15With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.
Your sons will succeed your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land.16Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
I will commemorate your name through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you forever and ever.17I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
