“Why does the Almighty not reserve times for judgment? Why may those who know Him never see His days?1"Why are times not stored up by the Almighty, And why do those who know Him not see His days?
Men move boundary stones; they pasture stolen flocks.2"Some remove the landmarks; They seize and devour flocks.
They drive away the donkey of the fatherless and take the widow’s ox in pledge.3"They drive away the donkeys of the orphans; They take the widow's ox for a pledge.
They push the needy off the road and force all the poor of the land into hiding.4"They push the needy aside from the road; The poor of the land are made to hide themselves altogether.
Indeed, like wild donkeys in the desert, the poor go to work foraging for food; the wasteland is food for their children.5"Behold, as wild donkeys in the wilderness They go forth seeking food in their activity, As bread for their children in the desert.
They gather fodder in the fields and glean the vineyards of the wicked.6"They harvest their fodder in the field And glean the vineyard of the wicked.
Without clothing, they spend the night naked; they have no covering against the cold.7"They spend the night naked, without clothing, And have no covering against the cold.
Drenched by mountain rains, they huddle against the rocks for want of shelter.8"They are wet with the mountain rains And hug the rock for want of a shelter.
The fatherless infant is snatched from the breast; the nursing child of the poor is seized for a debt.9"Others snatch the orphan from the breast, And against the poor they take a pledge.
Without clothing, they wander about naked. They carry the sheaves, but still go hungry.10"They cause the poor to go about naked without clothing, And they take away the sheaves from the hungry.
They crush olives within their walls; they tread the winepresses, but go thirsty.11"Within the walls they produce oil; They tread wine presses but thirst.
From the city, men groan, and the souls of the wounded cry out, yet God charges no one with wrongdoing.12"From the city men groan, And the souls of the wounded cry out; Yet God does not pay attention to folly.
Then there are those who rebel against the light, not knowing its ways or staying on its paths.13"Others have been with those who rebel against the light; They do not want to know its ways Nor abide in its paths.
When daylight is gone, the murderer rises to kill the poor and needy; in the night he is like a thief.14"The murderer arises at dawn; He kills the poor and the needy, And at night he is as a thief.
The eye of the adulterer watches for twilight. Thinking, ‘No eye will see me,’ he covers his face.15"The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, Saying, 'No eye will see me.' And he disguises his face.
In the dark they dig through houses; by day they shut themselves in, never to experience the light.16"In the dark they dig into houses, They shut themselves up by day; They do not know the light.
For to them, deep darkness is their morning; surely they are friends with the terrors of darkness!17"For the morning is the same to him as thick darkness, For he is familiar with the terrors of thick darkness.
They are but foam on the surface of the water; their portion of the land is cursed, so that no one turns toward their vineyards.18"They are insignificant on the surface of the water; Their portion is cursed on the earth. They do not turn toward the vineyards.
As drought and heat consume the melting snow, so Sheol steals those who have sinned.19"Drought and heat consume the snow waters, So does Sheol those who have sinned.
The womb forgets them; the worm feeds on them; they are remembered no more. So injustice is like a broken tree.20"A mother will forget him; The worm feeds sweetly till he is no longer remembered. And wickedness will be broken like a tree.
They prey on the barren and childless, and show no kindness to the widow.21"He wrongs the barren woman And does no good for the widow.
Yet by His power, God drags away the mighty; though rising up, they have no assurance of life.22"But He drags off the valiant by His power; He rises, but no one has assurance of life.
He gives them a sense of security, but His eyes are on their ways.23"He provides them with security, and they are supported; And His eyes are on their ways.
They are exalted for a moment, then they are gone; they are brought low and gathered up like all others; they are cut off like heads of grain.24"They are exalted a little while, then they are gone; Moreover, they are brought low and like everything gathered up; Even like the heads of grain they are cut off.
If this is not so, then who can prove me a liar and reduce my words to nothing?”25"Now if it is not so, who can prove me a liar, And make my speech worthless?"
