Then Job answered:1Then Job replied,
“Even today my complaint is bitter. His hand is heavy despite my groaning.2"Even today my complaint is rebellion; His hand is heavy despite my groaning.
If only I knew where to find Him, so that I could go to His seat.3"Oh that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat!
I would plead my case before Him and fill my mouth with arguments.4"I would present my case before Him And fill my mouth with arguments.
I would learn how He would answer, and consider what He would say.5"I would learn the words which He would answer, And perceive what He would say to me.
Would He contend with me in His great power? No, He would certainly take note of me.6"Would He contend with me by the greatness of His power? No, surely He would pay attention to me.
Then an upright man could reason with Him, and I would be delivered forever from my Judge.7"There the upright would reason with Him; And I would be delivered forever from my Judge.
If I go east, He is not there, and if I go west, I cannot find Him.8"Behold, I go forward but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him;
When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him.9When He acts on the left, I cannot behold Him; He turns on the right, I cannot see Him.
Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.10"But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
My feet have followed in His tracks; I have kept His way without turning aside.11"My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside.
I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.12"I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.
But He is unchangeable, and who can oppose Him? He does what He desires.13"But He is unique and who can turn Him? And what His soul desires, that He does.
For He carries out His decree against me, and He has many such plans.14"For He performs what is appointed for me, And many such decrees are with Him.
Therefore I am terrified in His presence; when I consider this, I fear Him.15"Therefore, I would be dismayed at His presence; When I consider, I am terrified of Him.
God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me.16"It is God who has made my heart faint, And the Almighty who has dismayed me,
Yet I am not silenced by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.17But I am not silenced by the darkness, Nor deep gloom which covers me.
