Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.1I looked again, and there was a man with a measuring line in his hand.
“Where are you going?” I asked. “To measure Jerusalem,” he replied, “and to determine its width and length.”2I asked, "Where are you going?" He replied, "To measure Jerusalem in order to determine its width and its length."
Then the angel who was speaking with me went out, and another angel came out to meet him3At this point the angelic messenger who spoke to me went out, and another messenger came to meet him
and said to him, “Run and tell that young man: ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the multitude of men and livestock within it.4and said to him, "Hurry, speak to this young man as follows: 'Jerusalem will no longer be enclosed by walls because of the multitude of people and animals there.
For I will be a wall of fire around it, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory within it.’ ”5But I (the LORD says) will be a wall of fire surrounding Jerusalem and the source of glory in her midst.'"
“Get up! Get up! Flee from the land of the north,” declares the LORD, “for I have scattered you like the four winds of heaven,” declares the LORD.6"You there! Flee from the northland!" says the LORD, "for like the four winds of heaven I have scattered you," says the LORD.
“Get up, O Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the Daughter of Babylon!”7"Escape, Zion, you who live among the Babylonians!"
For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “After His Glory has sent Me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye—8For the LORD who rules over all says to me that for his own glory he has sent me to the nations that plundered you--for anyone who touches you touches the pupil of his eye.
I will surely wave My hand over them, so that they will become plunder for their own servants. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me.”9"I am about to punish them in such a way," he says, "that they will be looted by their own slaves." Then you will know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me.
“Shout for joy and be glad, O Daughter of Zion, for I am coming to dwell among you,” declares the LORD.10"Sing out and be happy, Zion my daughter! For look, I have come; I will settle in your midst," says the LORD.
“On that day many nations will join themselves to the LORD, and they will become My people. I will dwell among you, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you.11"Many nations will join themselves to the LORD on the day of salvation, and they will also be my people. Indeed, I will settle in the midst of you all." Then you will know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me to you.
And the LORD will take possession of Judah as His portion in the Holy Land, and He will once again choose Jerusalem.12The LORD will take possession of Judah as his portion in the holy land and he will choose Jerusalem once again.
Be silent before the LORD, all people, for He has roused Himself from His holy dwelling.”13Be silent in the LORD's presence, all people everywhere, for he is being moved to action in his holy dwelling place.
