Berean Study BibleNew Living Translation
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.1 When I looked again, I saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
“Where are you going?” I asked. “To measure Jerusalem,” he replied, “and to determine its width and length.”2“Where are you going?” I asked. He replied, “I am going to measure Jerusalem, to see how wide and how long it is.”
Then the angel who was speaking with me went out, and another angel came out to meet him3Then the angel who was with me went to meet a second angel who was coming toward him.
and said to him, “Run and tell that young man: ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the multitude of men and livestock within it.4The other angel said, “Hurry, and say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem will someday be so full of people and livestock that there won’t be room enough for everyone! Many will live outside the city walls.
For I will be a wall of fire around it, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory within it.’ ”5Then I, myself, will be a protective wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the LORD. And I will be the glory inside the city!’” The Exiles Are Called Home
“Get up! Get up! Flee from the land of the north,” declares the LORD, “for I have scattered you like the four winds of heaven,” declares the LORD.6The LORD says, “Come away! Flee from Babylon in the land of the north, for I have scattered you to the four winds.
“Get up, O Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the Daughter of Babylon!”7Come away, people of Zion, you who are exiled in Babylon!”
For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “After His Glory has sent Me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye—8After a period of glory, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies sent me against the nations who plundered you. For he said, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession.
I will surely wave My hand over them, so that they will become plunder for their own servants. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me.”9I will raise my fist to crush them, and their own slaves will plunder them.” Then you will know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has sent me.
“Shout for joy and be glad, O Daughter of Zion, for I am coming to dwell among you,” declares the LORD.10The LORD says, “Shout and rejoice, O beautiful Jerusalem, for I am coming to live among you.
“On that day many nations will join themselves to the LORD, and they will become My people. I will dwell among you, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you.11Many nations will join themselves to the LORD on that day, and they, too, will be my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies sent me to you.
And the LORD will take possession of Judah as His portion in the Holy Land, and He will once again choose Jerusalem.12The land of Judah will be the LORD’s special possession in the holy land, and he will once again choose Jerusalem to be his own city.
Be silent before the LORD, all people, for He has roused Himself from His holy dwelling.”13Be silent before the LORD, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling.”
