Psalm 147
Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
Hallelujah! How good it is to sing to our God, for praise is pleasant and lovely.1Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.
The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem; he gathers Israel's exiled people.2The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.3He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
He counts the number of the stars; he gives names to all of them.4He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
Our Lord is great, vast in power; his understanding is infinite.5Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
The LORD helps the oppressed but brings the wicked to the ground.6The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.
Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; play the lyre to our God,7Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre!
who covers the sky with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, and causes grass to grow on the hills.8He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.
He provides the animals with their food, and the young ravens, what they cry for.9He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.
He is not impressed by the strength of a horse; he does not value the power of a warrior.10His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
The LORD values those who fear him, those who put their hope in his faithful love.11but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
Exalt the LORD, Jerusalem; praise your God, Zion!12Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!
For he strengthens the bars of your city gates and blesses your children within you.13For he strengthens the bars of your gates; he blesses your children within you.
He endows your territory with prosperity; he satisfies you with the finest wheat.14He makes peace in your borders; he fills you with the finest of the wheat.
He sends his command throughout the earth; his word runs swiftly.15He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.
He spreads snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes;16He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes.
he throws his hailstones like crumbs. Who can withstand his cold?17He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold?
He sends his word and melts them; he unleashes his winds, and the water flows.18He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow.
He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and judgments to Israel.19He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel.
He has not done this for every nation; they do not know his judgments. Hallelujah!20He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules. Praise the LORD!
